Galanthus Nivalis

Best known as the (common) snowdrop, is the Galanthus Nivalis. With its glowing, pure white snowflake flowers, these flowers stir up the first spring fever during winter. The Galanthus Nivalis is by far the most popular snowdrops at De Vroomen. The Snowdrop is usually the first flower that appears in January and brings in the promise of spring.

How does the Galanthus Nivalis look?

The Galanthus Nivalis is one of the most known snowdrops. The flower heads are pure white and grow nodding on green stems. The outer petals and inner petals are both green. This makes a beautiful sight in the dull winter fields. The Galanthus Nivalis is a fast naturalizer. The flower heads carry green seed pods that contain seeds to spread wide snowdrop colonies. Galanthus Nivalis grows mainly in woods and beside streams.

Plant Galanthus Nivalis

  • Plant the bulbs in autumn, from mid-August until December
  • The bulbs grow up to 4” (10 cm) high
  • Plant the bulbs about 2” (5 cm) deep
  • Plant 20 bulbs per square feet for the ultimate visual effect
